Countdown calculator

Pick a date and see how long there is until it, in every unit people ask for. Working days are counted too, which is the number that matters for a deadline.

The formula

The gap in days is the difference between the two dates. The years-months-days breakdown counts whole months first, then the remaining days, so it stays calendar-correct across months of different lengths.

Worked example

From 20 October 2026 to 18 January 2027 is 90 days — 2 months and 29 days, 12.9 weeks, and 64 working days.

How to use it

  1. 1A date in the past is counted up rather than refused, since 'how long since' is the same question reversed.
  2. 2Working days exclude Saturdays and Sundays but not public holidays, which differ by country.
  3. 3Change the second date to count between two dates that are both in the future or both in the past.

Questions people ask

Does the count include the start and end dates?

The day gap is exclusive of the start and inclusive of the end, which is how a deadline is normally read: three days from Monday is Thursday.

Why does the month count look odd?

Months are not a fixed length. Two months and 29 days from 20 October is 18 January, but a different start date with the same day count gives a different breakdown.
